Council Candidates Meet With The Iqra Community
On Thursday 23rd April, several Councillors and candidates at the forthcoming May local elections came to Iqra in the evening to meet with interested members of our Community.
This was an opportunity for them to explain the work they do and tell the audience about their core beliefs and what makes them tick. It was great to see a range of ages represented in the audience, from community elders through to young people who were able to learn about the democratic process generally and the role of the local elections specifically for the first time.
The evening was informal, with Councillors and candidates having the chance to briefly introduce themselves to the hall, but mainly concentrating on speaking to small groups of community members and parents around the tables.
The discussions around the tables covered a wide range of subjects, including one of the school's main concern at the moment - ensuring the continuity of our children's education once they leave Iqra Primary School.

A variety of political parties were represented, including the Labour Party, Liberal Democrat Party as well as an Independent.

Everyone who attended felt that the evening had been of great value; the audience benefitting from the chance to speak to local politicians and learn more about the work they do and the candidates themselves who appreciated the numbers who turned out and enjoyed the chance to explain their work.
