Nursery Summer 1
What we are learning this term.
Literacy
This half term in Nursery, our learning will be centred on the story ‘The Little Red Hen.’ Through this engaging story, the children will explore teamwork, responsibility, and helping others. We will bring the story to life through a range of fun and engaging activities, including storytelling, role-play, and creative arts. The children will also have opportunities to retell the story in their own words by creating their own story maps, which will help them build their communication skills.
Math's
In Math's, children will be developing their early math's skills through a range of engaging activities. They will be exploring 3D shapes, learning to recognise and describe them in their environment. The children will also practise counting on to add, as well as ordering numbers and counting forwards and backwards with increasing confidence. There will be a strong focus on developing and using mathematical vocabulary, with plenty of opportunities for children to practise and apply their understanding in everyday contexts.
In addition, they will investigate numbers and patterns, helping them to spot sequences and understand how numbers relate to one another. The concepts of doubling and halving will be introduced in a practical and meaningful way.
Phonics
Science
In phonics, our focus over the coming weeks will be on blending sounds together to read words. We will work to ensure this skill is fully consolidated, as it is a key step toward helping children become confident early readers.
PE
This term, our focus in PE will be on developing ball skills, helping children build coordination, control, and confidence through fun activities.PE lessons will take place every Tuesday. Please ensure your child comes to school dressed in their PE kit on this day so they can fully participate.
