Reception Autumn 1

Literacy

This term, in literacy, we will read the lovely book Lulu’s First Day by Anna McQuinn and Rosalind Beardshaw. Through Lulu’s exciting first day at school, the children will explore feelings, friendships and what it means to start something new. We will use this special story to support our own experiences of starting school.

Math's:

This term, in Maths, we will explore matching, sorting, comparing, and ordering objects; patterns; and continuing and creating simple patterns. Counting will develop accurate counting skills and understanding of quantity. Time to support exploring daily routines and sequencing events.Composition of numbers up to 10 by exploring how numbers can be made and broken apart.2D shapes by recognising, naming and describing common shapes. Positional language by learning words such as above, below, next to, behind, in front, inside and between. We will develop these skills through practical activities, games, songs and everyday opportunities, helping the children to apply their mathematical understanding in meaningful ways.

Phonics:

Science

This term, our Science topic is 'Our Amazing Bodies.' We will explore the different parts of our bodies and discover how our senses help us understand and experience the world around us.  We will explore our faces and features by identifying and talking about different facial features. We will discover how our eyes help us see. We will explore sounds and how we hear them. We will also investigate how we use touch to explore the world. We will identify different smells and how our noses help us, learning about healthy habits, including eating well, exercising, sleeping, and looking after our bodies.

PE:

PE sessions will be held every Thursday. The children will engage in activities that develop essential team play skills, ball skills, and physical coordination. Please ensure your child wears an appropriate PE kit on Thursdays.

General message:

Please ensure children have spare clothes in their bags if they have an accident.

Please ensure that your children complete their homework over the weekend so they can be collected on Monday, as well as reading with a parent for ten minutes each day.
