IQRA VA PRIMARY SCHOOL ISSUE 6 SUMMER 2 2026
What a Fantastic Year of Learning
As we reflect on the past academic year, it is clear that it has been a truly fantastic year of learning, growth and achievement. Across every year group, our pupils have continued to embrace new challenges with enthusiasm, curiosity and determination. They have developed academically, socially and personally, supported by the dedication of our staff and the support and encouragement of our families.
From exciting classroom experiences to memorable trips, performances and special events, there has been much to celebrate. We are incredibly proud of all that our pupils have accomplished and hope you enjoy looking back at some of the many highlights that have made this such a successful and rewarding year.
Academic Achievement
We have had another successful year in terms of Year 6 SATs which is the culmination of 8 years hard work by all of the teachers and pupils, continuing our proud record as an 'outstanding' school in terms of both academic achievement but also developing our children across the full range of curriculum subjects.
Well done to all al the teachers, support staff but most of all to the children for all their hard work, not to mention the support of their lovely families.
Educational Visits
We have enjoyed so many fantastic academic trips, as we know the tremendous benefits they bring to children. Recently, these have included the Year 4 trip to Gunnersbury Park museum, the weekly year 3 swimming sessions, Year 6 visit to the robotics workshop, and of course our now annual whole school trip to Chessington World of Adventure.
Children Meet Their New Teacher
As part of our annual preparations for the new academic year, pupils will spend the morning in their class for next year with their new class teacher on Monday, 6th July 2026. This annual event is always greatly enjoyed by the children, who look forward to meeting their new teacher and becoming familiar with their new classroom. It is a wonderful way to begin looking ahead to another exciting and successful school year ahead of the summer break.
Parents will, of course, have the opportunity to meet their child's new teacher in September, at the start of the new term.

Our Haj Celebrations
It was such a delight to witness the joy with which our children put together a celebratory assembly this year. Parents enjoyed the chance to come into the school as our community celebrated the Haj pigimage.
Science week
Themed weeks often bring much needed change to the curriculum and allow our children to really immerse themselves in a subject. We were delighted to take part in this year's theme of 'What's Your Question' and we put together a whole school assembly at the end of the week to show off the work that we had done.
Whilst on the subject of science, it was another highly notable achievement that this year, the school's excellence in science has received national recognition. We did not simply retain our Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM) status but we eleveated it to the GILT level.
The PSQM is a nationally recognised award that celebrates excellence in the teaching and learning of science. Achieving Gilt status reflects our commitment to providing an engaging, practical and inspiring science curriculum that encourages children to question, investigate and develop a lifelong curiosity about the world around them.
Over the past year, staff have worked together to further strengthen science across the school. This has included developing practical enquiry skills, ensuring science is accessible and inclusive for every child, enhancing opportunities for outdoor learning and making meaningful links with other areas of the curriculum. Our pupils have embraced these opportunities with enthusiasm, demonstrating excellent scientific thinking, curiosity and resilience.
The assessors praised the school's clear vision for science, the enthusiasm of both staff and pupils, and the strong culture of continuous improvement. This award is a testament to the dedication of our teaching team, the support of our governors and families, and, most importantly, the hard work and inquisitive minds of our children.
We are incredibly proud of this achievement and will continue to build on this success, ensuring that every child at Iqra develops the knowledge, skills and confidence to become a successful young scientist.

School Dates
-
The last day of the summer term, for the children, will be Thursday 16th July. Children should be collected at 2pm on that day.
The first day of the new autumn term, when the children* must return to school, is Wednesday 2nd September. School will start and end at the normal times from that date.
*Nursery pupils will not start school until Wednesday 9th September.
Farewell to staff members
With deep gratitude and heartfelt du'as, we announce that several of our staff members will be moving on to new chapters in their lives and careers after this academic year. Their contributions to our school community, and most importantly, to the lives of our children, have been immeasurable. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, passion, and Islamic values they have instilled in our pupils.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to each of them:
Ustadha Aden – Thank you for being a dynamic and inspiring teacher who effortlessly brings every child in the Reception class together, nurturing and supporting each of their individual needs.
Ustadh Bas – Thank you for bringing maths to life for every child across the school and for empowering colleagues with your passion, expertise, and unwavering support.
Ustadha Hussein – Thank you for your amazing skill in bringing out the very best in every pupil, fostering both academic excellence and creativity in equal measure.
Ustadh Kasujja – Thank you for always placing the Qur'an and Tarbiyah at the heart of our school, nurturing both the minds and hearts of our pupils and inspiring them through your dedication and example.
Ustadha Shah – Thank you for your exceptional ability to make the transition from Reception to Year 1 a smooth, positive, and reassuring experience for every child, year after year.
We are sure you will join us in praying for their success and asking Allah (SWT) to reward them abundantly for their hard work. We also invite you and your children to bid them a formal farewell at our Summer Fair on Friday, 10th July, where you will have the opportunity to say goodbye and show your appreciation.
While we are sad to see our colleagues leave, we are also excited for the future. We are delighted to welcome the following new teachers who will be joining our Iqra family in September:
- Hannah Abdi
- Sima Daudi
- Khadija Hague
- Shaden Idris
- Yasmin Massed
We are confident they will bring their own unique skills and enthusiasm to our school and look forward to them becoming an integral part of our community.
A Vision for the Future: Our Secondary School Project
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the parents and families who have supported our vision to establish an Islamic secondary school in Lambeth. Whether you have attended public meetings, written to councillors and MPs, completed surveys, signed petitions or simply helped raise awareness within the community, your commitment has been invaluable. The response from local politicians has, on the whole, been very encouraging, and our meetings have suggested that there is genuine interest in exploring how this vision could become a reality. While there is still a long way to go, these positive discussions give us reason to be optimistic that this important idea has real potential. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create greater opportunities for future generations of our children.PTA
This year also saw the exciting launch of our new Parent Teacher Association (PTA).
We are incredibly grateful to the parents who have volunteered their time and enthusiasm to help establish the group and begin building an even stronger school community. It was wonderful to see the PTA get involved straight away, playing an important role in organising and supporting our Summer Fayre. Their energy, creativity and commitment will, we are sure, help make the event a great success, and we look forward to seeing the PTA continue to flourish and create many more opportunities for families to work together in support of our school.
