Year 5 Explore Islamic Art at the British Museum

Today, our Year 5 class had an inspiring visit to the British Museum, exploring the Islamic Art and Civilisation gallery. The children were fascinated by the beautiful artefacts, including intricate calligraphy, ceramics, textiles, and coins, which brought the rich history of Islamic culture to life.

During the visit, pupils had the opportunity to observe, ask questions, and take notes on the ways Islamic art reflects culture, religion, and everyday life. Highlights included examining detailed geometric patterns, learning about the spread of Islamic civilisation, and discovering the stories behind historic objects.

The trip provided a hands-on learning experience that enhanced classroom lessons on history and culture. It was wonderful to see the children so engaged, curious, and inspired by the incredible collection.

Student Comments:

  • “I loved seeing the colourful tiles and patterns – they were so detailed!” – Aisha, Year 5

  • “I didn’t know Islamic coins had so many designs on them. It was amazing!” – Khalid, Year 5

  • “The gallery helped me understand more about how Islam spread and influenced art.” – Sumayyah, Year 5

A big thank you to the British Museum staff for welcoming our class and guiding us through the gallery. Our Year 5 students left with new knowledge, ideas, and appreciation for the art and history of the Islamic world.
