What we are learning this term.
Literacy
In English, this term, Nursery will be enjoying the traditional story ‘Goldilocks and the three bears.’The children will listen to the story through shared reading and storytelling, helping to build their listening skills, vocabulary, and imagination. We will also be exploring a range of fun, story-related activities, including role-play and small-world play with the characters, as well as creative activities such as painting inspired by the story, and simple maths and vocabulary activities (big/small, hot/cold, full/empty). These activities support children’s communication, creativity, and early learning in a playful and engaging way.
Maths
In Maths, the children will be learning all about numbers and counting as part of our maths activities. The children will be practising counting forwards and backwards, ordering numbers correctly, writing numbers using different fun and hands-on activities, and comparing numbers using more than/less than vocabulary. We will support children in developing the fine motor skills needed for number writing. By using fun, hands-on activities such as sand trays, paint, playdough, and mark-making tools.
Phonics
In phonics, we will continue learning phase 2 sounds. These sounds are foundational for building words and reading fluency.
Science
In Science, children will be learning about forces and how things work through play, hands-on activities, and everyday experiences. Children will investigate simple ideas such as: pushing and pulling toys and objects, watching things roll, slide, or spin, and exploring what happens when objects are dropped, pushed, or moved.
PE
In PE this term, children will be exploring gymnastics. This will develop their gross motor skills by practising balance, coordination and movement. These activities will help develop strength, coordination, and confidence while having lots of fun.
