What we are learning this term...

English

In English, we will be reading the ' Ice Palace' by Robert Swindells.

Throughout the term, we will be exploring the text in depth through a range of engaging and creative writing activities. Children will have opportunities to write creative letters in role, allowing them to explore characters thoughts' and feelings as well as produce informative leaflets linked to the themes and settings of the story. Alongside this, we will be further developing our vocabulary, sentence structures and comprehension skills, building confidence in expressing our ideas clearly and effectively in writing.                                                                                                                                                                                     

Guided Reading

In Year 3 we will be reading ‘Varjak Paw' Through learning new vocabulary, making predictions about the story, retrieving information and summarising what they have read, we will be developing their understanding of the text being read.

It is essential that your child also reads for at least 10 minutes everyday. Your child has a reading record and a book that they take home. Please help your child with reading and filling our their reading record. We encourage children to read a wide range of books. Children are also given a book on the online library: Bug Club. Children can read a book online and improve their progress. Great readers make great learners. 

Maths

We will be looking at place value and the key skills of addition and subtraction. We will be using a variety of methods to help consolidate children’s learning and also use concrete materials to help with visualising the methods. Please ensure children continue practising their times tables at home to help consolidate their learning. They can use the timetables website which they have all been given logins to.

Computing

In computing children will be looking at the importance of online safety and how to stay safe online. They will also be learning how to use Google Docs effectively.

Science

In Science, our topic is Light and Shadows. We will explore the question ' how we make shadows change shape?' through practical, hands-on investigations. Pupils will learn that light is needed in order to see things that darkness is the absence of light. We will gather, record, classify and present date in a range of ways to help them answer scientific questions and develop their scientific skills.

History

In History, we are travelling back in time to explore Ancient Egypt. We will be investigating what life was like. We will be exploring their beliefs, architecture and  famous pharoahs.

PE

P.E. will be on Tuesdays. Please ensure that your child has the correct P.E. kit and suitable footwear.

Art/DT

This term in Art Year 3 will be looking at sculptures. . We will be developing our modelling skills using a range of materials such as a clay and dough, learning how to shape, join and form sculptures using simple techniques
